Best Japanese language institutes in India (2026): how to choose
By Japanese Ninjas Institute (TDI, Kundli, Delhi NCR) · Founder: Atishaya Jain, JLPT N1-certified trainer · Last updated
The best Japanese language institute in India is one that teaches live, follows the JLPT syllabus level by level, has qualified trainers, offers a free demo, publishes its fees and is honest about placements. Japanese Ninjas offers live online JLPT N5–N1 classes, a free 2-day demo and published fees from ₹17,999.
There is no official ranking of Japanese institutes in India, and a list that crowns one "number 1" is usually an advertisement. What you can do is judge every institute — including ours — against the same ten questions. This guide gives you those questions, what a good answer looks like, and how Japanese Ninjas answers them. We are an institute ourselves, so we are not neutral: use the checklist to test us as hard as you test anyone else.
The 10-point checklist
| What to check | What good looks like | Japanese Ninjas |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Live or recorded? | Live, interactive classes where you speak and the trainer corrects you. Recordings are a bonus for revision, not a replacement. | Live online classes. Trainers can share class recordings through the student portal for revision. |
| 2. JLPT-aligned curriculum | A level-by-level plan (N5 to N1) that follows the exam: vocabulary, grammar, reading, listening. | Separate N5, N4, N3, N2 and N1 courses, with JLPT, NAT and JFT-pattern mock tests. |
| 3. Trainer qualifications | Trainers who hold JLPT N2/N1 (or equal) and have taught before — and you can meet one before paying. | Founder Atishaya Jain is a JLPT N1-certified trainer who has taught at Chitkara University, Delhi University, Galgotias University and Gateway International University. The website states 18+ years of Japanese-teaching experience. |
| 4. Batch size | Small enough that you speak in every class. | We do not publish a fixed number on this page. Ask the counsellor and count the room during your free demo. |
| 5. Free demo class | A real class with a real trainer, not just a sales call or video. | Free 2-day live demo, no cost and no obligation. |
| 6. Fee transparency | Total fee, hours, inclusions and instalments in writing before you pay. | Fees are published for every level (₹17,999 for N5 to ₹30,000 for N1) with an instalment plan that starts with ₹2,000 after the demo. |
| 7. Books, tests, mocks | Study material, regular tests and assignments, and full mock exams under timing. | Full study package with books, regular tests and assignments, and exam-pattern mock tests. |
| 8. Doubt support | A clear way to ask questions between classes. | Doubt support and a student portal (classes, recordings, tests, attendance, chat). The website lists 24/7 support and guidance. |
| 9. Honest placement claims | Real, checkable examples. No promise of a guaranteed job or visa. | Career counselling, interview preparation and job guidance, with verified placements listed on our placements page. We do not guarantee a job. |
| 10. Guidance beyond the class | Honest advice on JLPT vs NAT vs JFT, study visas, MEXT and work routes. | Free guides: JLPT vs NAT vs JFT, MEXT, study in Japan, SSW. |
Live classes or recorded videos?
Language is a skill, not just information. You need to speak, make mistakes and be corrected, which is hard with pre-recorded videos alone. Recorded lessons are fine for revision and for catching up on a missed class; they work badly as the only way to learn. If an institute sells "online classes", ask whether they are live and whether you are expected to speak.
Japanese Ninjas classes are live online. Trainers can share the recording of a class with students through the student portal, so a missed class or a tough grammar point can be revisited.
Does the curriculum follow the JLPT?
The JLPT has five levels, N5 (beginner) to N1 (advanced), and tests vocabulary, grammar, reading and listening — there is no speaking or writing section. A good course is built level by level, tells you roughly how many hours each level takes, and gives you timed mock tests. If an institute cannot tell you which level you will reach in how many months, keep looking.
Our courses are separate for each level: N5 is 150 hours (about 6 months), N4 is 180 hours (about 6 months), N3 is about 6 months, and N2 and N1 take 6–10 months. See all courses and fees and the level-by-level guides. Official exam information is on jlpt.jp.
Who is teaching you, and how many are in the room?
Ask for the trainer's own Japanese qualification (JLPT N2 or N1 is a sensible minimum for teaching), how long they have taught, and whether you can attend a class before paying. Then ask the batch size and watch it in the demo: if you never get to speak, the batch is too large for you.
We introduce our founder's background above. For batch size we would rather you check it yourself than quote a number: join the free demo, count the learners, and notice how often the trainer asks each person to speak.
Fees: what a transparent answer looks like
Before you pay anyone, get four things in writing: the total fee, the number of class hours, what is included (books, tests, mocks) and the instalment dates. Compare institutes on cost per class hour and what is included, not just the headline price. Check the refund policy before paying.
Our fees as published on the courses page (checked 20 October 2026): N5 ₹17,999, N4 ₹18,999, N3 ₹19,999, N2 ₹25,000, N1 ₹30,000, payable in instalments. See Japanese course fees in India and our refund policy.
Placement claims: what honest looks like
No institute can honestly promise you a job or a visa — employers and immigration offices decide. What an institute can honestly offer is career counselling, interview preparation, job guidance and examples you can verify. Be careful with anything that sounds like a guarantee.
Japanese Ninjas offers career counselling, interview preparation and job guidance, and publishes verified placement stories at /our-placements. We do not promise a job. For what is realistic, read jobs for Japanese speakers in India.
Red flags
- "Number 1 in India" with no source, or rankings you cannot trace.
- Guaranteed job, visa or JLPT pass.
- Only recorded videos, sold as "online classes".
- No free demo, or a demo that is only a sales call.
- Fees quoted only after you share your phone number and "enrol today" pressure.
- No named trainers and no way to check their qualifications.
Who Japanese Ninjas suits — and who it does not
It suits learners who want live online classes from anywhere in India, a clear N5-to-N1 path, instalment payment and career guidance towards Japan-related work or study.
It may not suit you if you want only in-person classroom teaching (our classes are online), a self-paced recorded course with no live sessions, or a guaranteed placement (nobody can honestly offer one).
Test any institute in one week
- Book the free demo (ours is at /free-demo-class) and note how much you speak.
- Ask for the total fee, hours, inclusions and refund policy in writing.
- Ask the trainer's JLPT level and teaching experience.
- Ask for placement examples you can verify.
- Decide after the demo, not before it.

Which is the best Japanese language institute in India?
There is no official ranking, so the honest answer is: the best institute for you is the one that passes a checklist — live classes, a JLPT-aligned curriculum, qualified trainers, a free demo, transparent fees and honest placement claims. Japanese Ninjas is built to meet these points; test it yourself in the free 2-day demo.
Is online Japanese coaching as good as classroom coaching?
It can be, if the classes are live and you speak in every session. Live online classes let you join from anywhere in India; a classroom suits learners who need an in-person setting. Recorded-only courses are the weakest option for speaking and listening.
How much do Japanese classes cost in India?
Fees vary by institute and level. At Japanese Ninjas the published fees are ₹17,999 for N5 up to ₹30,000 for N1, payable in instalments. Whatever the institute, get the total fee, class hours and inclusions in writing.
How long does it take to learn Japanese for the JLPT?
Our N5, N4 and N3 courses are each about 6 months, and N2 and N1 take 6–10 months. Your pace depends on how much you can practise each week.
Do Japanese institutes guarantee jobs in Japan?
No institute can honestly guarantee a job or a visa. A good one offers career counselling, interview preparation and verifiable examples. Japanese Ninjas offers counselling and interview preparation and cannot guarantee a job.
Can I try a Japanese class before paying?
Yes. Japanese Ninjas offers a free 2-day live demo class with no cost and no obligation. Book it at www.japanese-ninjas.com/free-demo-class or WhatsApp +91 8168282193.
Where is Japanese Ninjas based?
Japanese Ninjas Institute is based at TDI, Kundli, Delhi NCR, and teaches live online classes to students across India and abroad.
