Japanese classes for working professionals and IT engineers heading to Japan
By Japanese Ninjas Institute (TDI, Kundli, Delhi NCR) · Founder: Atishaya Jain, JLPT N1-certified trainer · Last updated
Working professionals and IT engineers in India can learn Japanese in live online classes that fit around a job. Aim for JLPT N3 first and N2 next, since most Japan-related roles ask for N3 or N2. Japanese Ninjas offers a free 2-day demo, and its booking form asks your preferred timing: morning, afternoon, evening or weekend only.
A Japanese qualification can open Japan-facing roles in India and employment routes to Japan, but it has to fit around a full-time job. This guide covers which level to target, how to find the time, and what to check before you choose a course.
Why professionals add Japanese
- Japan-facing teams in India: companies such as Cognizant, Accenture, TCS, Wipro and HCLTech have shown public evidence of Japan-related work or Japanese-speaker hiring. Check each careers page for current openings; this is not a promise of a job.
- Employment in Japan: the Engineer / Specialist in Humanities / International Services visa is the standard route for IT and engineering, and needs a job offer from an employer.
- Points for long-term residence: under the Highly Skilled Professional points system, JLPT N1 adds 15 points and N2 adds 10.

Which level should you aim for?
| Goal | Typical level | Our course |
|---|---|---|
| Start from zero | JLPT N5 | N5, 150 hours, about 6 months |
| Daily-life Japanese | JLPT N4 | N4, 180 hours, about 6 months |
| Entry point for many Japan-facing roles | JLPT N3 | N3, about 6 months |
| Stronger profile, business emails and meetings | JLPT N2 | N2, 6–10 months |
Most Japan-related roles ask for N2 or N3 and above, together with your own domain skill. If you are not sure where to begin, the free demo helps our counsellor place you at the right level.
Fitting classes around a job
- Choose a timing you can keep. Our demo booking form asks for your preferred class timing — morning, afternoon, evening or weekend only — and the counsellor suggests a batch.
- Do the arithmetic: our N5 course is 150 hours over about 6 months, which works out to roughly 6 hours of class a week on average. Your batch's actual schedule is confirmed by the counsellor.
- Use class recordings for revision when work gets in the way. Trainers share them through the student portal.
- Practise a little every day instead of a lot once a week.
- Plan around the exam: the JLPT is held in July and December, so work backwards from the test date.
If your target is Japan
For IT and engineering roles you need a job offer, usually a relevant degree or experience, and an employer-sponsored Certificate of Eligibility. Japan-focused job portals include Japan Dev (tech roles), Daijob (Japanese-speaking roles), GaijinPot Jobs, CareerCross, Wantedly and Indeed Japan. Your Japanese level decides which roles you can apply for, so build it alongside your technical skills.
